🐣 Right After Hatching
DO NOT take the quail chicks out of the incubator until they are completely dry and fluffy! If they still look wet, sticky, or not properly fluffy, they're not ready to come out yet.
Place a towel or other non-slip bedding in the incubator when hatching begins, so the chicks get good footing and don't slip and injure their legs.
🏠 The First Days
Use a towel as bedding for the first 2–3 days in the chick box. Avoid slippery surfaces.
🌾 Feed
Crush or crumble the starter feed during the first week, so the pieces are small enough for the tiny chicks. Use chick/quail starter with high protein content.
🌡️ Warmth
Preferably use a heat plate, not a heat lamp. The chicks should be able to go under the warmth themselves and move away when they get warm enough.
💧 Water
Provide water in a very shallow bowl, for example a small coffee cup, with small clean stones in it. This way they can drink between the stones without falling in.
🏡 Placement
Keep the box dry and draft-free. Small quail chicks don't tolerate cold drafts well.
👀 Keep an Eye on the Chicks
Watch how they behave: If they all huddle closely together under the heat plate, they might be too cold. If they consistently stay away from the warmth, it could be too hot.
Check on them often during the first days. Quail chicks are incredibly tiny, fast, and clever at finding things they shouldn't. 🐥
