We have become members of Agder Rasefjørfeklubb! 🐔
After we recently decided to change our chicken flock and focus on purebred Jærhens, it felt natural to take the next step and become members of Agder Rasefjørfeklubb.
For us, keeping chickens is about much more than just eggs. We want to learn more about the breeds we keep, conduct good and serious breeding work, and at the same time contribute to preserving the genetic diversity of Norwegian poultry keeping.
Why join a pedigree poultry club?
One of the biggest advantages is the community and knowledge that exists among others who work with pedigree poultry. There is so much to learn about, including breeding, breed standards, selection of breeding animals, shows and how to build a good and healthy line over time.
Through such an environment, it also becomes easier to connect with other breeders, exchange experiences and find new breeding animals when you need fresh bloodlines in your flock.
This is especially interesting for us because we have chosen to focus on Jærhens – Norway's only remaining, original Norwegian chicken breed. It is a hardy, active and exciting breed that fits very well with how we want to run Den Lille Hagen.
The way forward 🐣
We hope that our membership can help us learn even more about targeted breeding and how we can further develop our Jærhens flock.
In the long term, we also want to be able to offer hatching eggs and birds from a healthy and well-documented line, while contributing to continued growing interest in Jærhens and other pedigree poultry.
We look forward to what comes next – and to getting to know the pedigree poultry community here in Agder even better! 🌱🐔
