Horses in autumn: From fresh summer pasture to hay and stable routine

Horses in autumn: From fresh summer pasture to hay and stable routine
September means the transition from fresh summer pasture to being indoors during the wet autumn. We prepare our horses for this change – both mentally and physically.

When summer's freedom becomes autumn's routine

Our horses have enjoyed the summer pastures through July and August, but now the days are getting shorter, the grass less nutritious, and we prepare for the transition to stall and hay. This is a sensitive period – both psychologically for the animals and practically for us.

We gradually start increasing the amount of hay in their ration, reduce grazing time, and ensure the horses get enough movement despite less outdoor time than before.

September preparations for our horses

Good horses need good nutrition all year round – just like our hens that give fresh eggs and all our animals on the farm.
