We've switched to purebred Jærhøns

At Den Lille Hagen we want to focus on quality, sustainability, and Norwegian traditions. That's why we've made a big decision – our entire flock of chickens has now been replaced with

Purebred Jærhøns.

This is one of Norway's oldest chicken breeds and has proven over many generations to be a robust and hardy breed that is very well suited to Norwegian conditions.

Why did we choose Jærhøns?

For us, there were several reasons why we chose this particular breed.

• Good adaptation to Norwegian climate
• Active and lively chicken breed
• Good layers
• Worthy of preservation – Norwegian cultural heritage
• Well-suited to small-scale farm management

We want to build a healthy and strong breeding flock that can provide both good table eggs and high-quality hatching eggs.

Our future focus

This marks the beginning of a new focus at Den Lille Hagen.

Our goal is to produce:

• Fresh farm eggs
• Hatching eggs from purebred Jærhøns
• Eventually also chicks once the flock is well established

We place great emphasis on good animal welfare, natural surroundings, and calm birds that get to live the way chickens thrive best.

Preservation of a Norwegian breed

Jærhøns is an important part of Norwegian agricultural history. By keeping and breeding purebred animals, we hope to help preserve this wonderful breed for future generations.
